How I Choose a Book
You may consider yourself someone who does not like to read. Perhaps you consider yourself an avid reader, but tend to stick within a certain genre exclusively. This doesn’t make you less of a reader at all. If you feel trapped in a certain type of literature or just flat out don’t like reading, all you have to do is find the right book!
The right book is a story that speaks to you. And believe it or not, the right book is not that hard to find! Just follow these steps to see which book is for you!
Read the first sentence. The first sentence of a book should draw you in and make you feel like you want to read more. If the first sentence of your book doesn’t say much, read the first chapter or so. Remember, if you don’t like what you see, keep looking!
DO NOT say “no” to a book because of the cover. I know it’s a cliche, but in the words of Mary Poppins: “A cover is nice, but the cover is not the book!” Who knows what is inside the cover if you never bother to look?
Go beyond your genre. You may be interested in fantasy books, or action'/adventure, or realistic fiction. You may think you won’t enjoy reading anything outside of your regular genre, but you never know what’s out there until you look! Worst case scenario, you try something new and get a brand new point of view.
The right book for you could be anything. Any genre, any author, any plot. But the right book will make you feel like you are living the story, and you never want to stop reading. The first time I read my favorite book, I couldn’t tell you how elated I felt. I wanted more. The story overwhelmed my capacity for greatness and it changed my whole perspective on how I view the world. And the right book for YOU is right around the corner.
